This is awesome. Looks like we got ourselves an arms race, folks! It’s further proof that the endless fight of Red vs Blue/Black Hat vs White Hat continues unabated. Adopting QR codes as the next area for cybercrime just makes sense. Beyond being an attack vector, there are additional privacy issues with QR codes. They yield up to databases even more personally identifiable information, enabling even more granular tracking — down to our daily dietary preferences. As with all things Internet, convenience comes first and then only after some kind of accident or cyberfire, do folks try and figure out security solutions — it’s the inverse relationship of cybersecurity. Remember, DARPAnet never had security built into the system. Why? You had to have clearance to badge into the room in the first place. The machines were L1 physically secured. Why would you be dumb and redundant and add even more inconvenience to your daily life? Do you think we’re a bunch of a Liberal Arts Poets Majors here?
